Every last Monday of each month
(named for John Klenner’s composition, a jazz favourite for 50 years) play tasteful, upbeat instrumental renditions of famous standards and jazz favourites at a moderate volume for conversation.
We are a saxophone led quintet, with the unique sound of the vibraphone.
The Golden Age of American popular song produced composers such as George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington and Hoagy Carmichael. Their melodies were popularised by Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, and their peers, and remain familiar through the work of Stacey Kent, Tony Bennett, Brian Ferry, Rod Stewart, Jamie Cullum, and Harry Connick Jnr., Robbie Williams and Michael Buble. (But we don’t attempt to sing).
Add 30’s Swing, and some Bossa Nova and you have a mixture which pleases most people most of the time.
The musicians of
are serious students of their craft, with experience of Big Band swing, small group jazz and Blues in many public and private venues around Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.
